Album Review
Andy S
Reviewed 2012-03-03
Loud, irreverent, country-flavored indie rock. Fantastic grating male vox on most tracks, preaching the gospel of self-loathing. A lot of authentic rock n roll energy here channelled really well, with a smattering of weirdness. FCC 2, 8, 12. Start with 5 or 6. -Andy

*1 - (3:29) simple, stomping saloon rag
*2 - (4:50) FCC "fuckin" before music starts; upbeat snarling rock
*3 - (3:18) uptempo w/ Ramones stylings and chanting: "let's all go to the bar!", goofy outro
4 - (4:25) downbeat, folky w/ new vocalist; song ends with 30s left
**5 - (3:49) bold, halting rock, with a guitar lick that grabs you by the chest and shoves you toward the chorus
**6 - (3:46) poignantly simple, mopey number with muffled guitar
*7 - (2:18) fast rock n roll with weird "oh say can you see" intro
8 - (3:38) FCC "shit", "bullshit"; new vocalist, Old 97s rock
9 - (3:27) minor key dramatic indie-ish rock, a la Alejandro Escovedo
10 - (4:31) slow, piano-centric ballad, nice vocals and country guitar
*11 - (4:16) duet for voice and electric piano, bare and haunting
*12.A - (3:15) FCC "shit"; rollicking sexually charged pop song
*12.B - (hidden track, starts w/ 2:35 left in track 12) great little country tune about cigarettes
