Album Review
Your Imaginary Friend
Reviewed 2011-11-13
From Slovenia of all places: Hipster blues, a lot of “front-porch” howling on the harmonica, sloppy, garbage can feel, sung through a cheap mic thing. Minimal. For fans of Bob Log III/Doo Rag, Jon Spencer’s Blues Explosion, Royal Trux, Pussy Galore, Slim Cessna, Old Time Religion. “Gonna go downtown, gonna see my girl, gonna sing her a song, gonna show her my ding dong”. Radio Student records is a German radio station that’s is obviously TRULY dedicated to music.

1) (3:07) pensive rock builds, drums never appear though It feels like they will
2) (2:15) front porch harmonica blues
3) (1:42) upbeat front porch joined by tambourine shaking
4) (2:19) slow howling blues
5) FCCS, bigtime
6) (2:52) slow, strange, minimal
7) (4:16) cool electrified dobro tone
8) (2:41) front porch blues, cool love stricken horniness
9) (1:35) jews harp, bass drum, apalachian feel for sure
10) (2:23) recent American wars references w/ cool noises in background, vocs get noisey at end
11) (1:25) front porch, upbeat take on Beatles “You Say Yes”
12) (1:07) simple singing mostly
13) (11:06) dark slow buildup, w/ messed up flutes, then twisted Buttholes Surfers guitars and “vocs”, long and painful, ends kinda like it starts, 30 second sustain/fade-out (over by 15 sec remaining)
