First release by singer / songwriter playing some really nice folky American tunes. Instrumentation of guitar, drums, fiddle, keys. He’s got some good lyrics to complement the excellent musicianship. No FCC’s.
*My Favorites*: 2, 4, 5, 6, 8.
1. (2:11) Mid. Fiddle, cymbals, piano giving a folky, poppy, bluegrassy vibe.
2. *(4:29) Mid. Folky, rockin’, country with just a hint of gospel. Upbeat with great honky-tonkin’ piano, percussion, guitar, nice slide.
3. (5:03) Mid. Mandolin, percussion, guitar. Mellow mood. Guitar really shines.
4. *(3:56) Slow / Mid. Organ, guitar, drums. Song featuring Mt. St. Helens flowers. Really heartfelt.
5. *(4:15) Mid. Dark mood, yet upbeat, despite the lyrics. Guitar, bass, percussion, piano. Good stuff.
6. *(4:48) Mid. Swirling organ, drums, guitar. Song about Abolition. Has an epic feel.
7. (4:36) Mid. Title track. Fiddle, drums, guitar with the lyrics gives it a sort of meditation.
8. *(3:34) Mid. Woody Guthrie-ish guitar, slight echoey vocals, with tambourine. Killer.
9. (3:38) Mid. Another song in the old folk vein. Just guitar and vocal. Nice.
