The Dears: Degeneration Street (Dangerbird)
Pretty straightforward soulful indie rock/pop. Some songs sound like Lenny Kravitz, others are straight out of the 80s. Jacob Dylan’s The Wallflowers sometimes come to mind. Always expect big choruses. Label pushing 01, 03, 04.
Best tracks: 01, 07, 13
***01 Omega Dog 5:01: nice groove w/ gtr/drums; falsetto vox; soulful chorus, mellow breakdown, crescendo
02 5 Chords 3:34: driving beat; tremlo picked gtr, anthemic chorus; kinda 80s-sounding
03 Blood 4:10: upbeat; harpsichord then rocking chorus w/ big gtr
04 Thrones 4:43: mid-tempo; rung out gtr w/ vibrato; big 80s chorus
05 Lamentation 4:20: power ballad; clean gtr, organ, soft vox
06 Torches 1:36: little airy synth ditty
**07 Galactic Tides 4:38: Hendrix-inspired ballad
08 Yesteryear 3:51: mid-tempo; sounds like Springsteen doing Motown
09 Stick W/ Me Kid 3:29: upbeat; synth-driven 80s son; cheesy chorus
10 Tiny Man 5:04: slow; acoustic, deep vox, twangy gtr, tinkling piano
11 Easy Suffering 4:33: mid-tempo, but w/ drive, twangy gtr, earnest vox
12 Unsung 4:15: mellow; simple/reserved drums & gtr; soulful vox
**13 1854 5:24: mid-tempo, but mellow; slightly psychedelic
14 Degeneration Street 4:58: ballad; piano, tortured vox, reserved drums, weird synth bridge
