Following their (at least in Europe) successful album Junior, Royksopp steps into adulthood with Senior. It’s an all-instrumental journey through the wild west or far north, depending on where you’re from, with the moody Royksopp electro/acoustic soundscape to tie it all together.
FCC: Clean
Try: 2, 7, 5
1) 1:50 Slow, atmospheric. “Reverse” feel. Spacey ballad from the North
2) 7:51 ** Booms right off the bat. Funky bopping bass line, stingy synths on top of that. Boom bom yeah.
3) 5:11 Classic Royksopp with layers and layers of fragile synths. Gui- tars plucking away, too. “Happy Up Here”’s quirky brother. 4) 5:10 Starts out with melancholic guitar work. Mysterious and moody
5) 5:58 * Panda Bear-ish elements but much more minimal. Builds a little but ultimately dissolves into static noise
6) 5:28 Fits the title surprisingly well – Echoes of the wild west and acoustic guitars on an electronic foundation.
7) 7:01 * Slow with a grooving bassline. Grows into an electronic/acoustic fusion
8) 5:05 A vibraphone(?) lullaby. Warm and fussy
9) 12:16 Long, ambient, and somewhat terrifying. Soundscape with weird samples, evil laughing and odd noise. SILENCE at 4:00 – 5:33
