Vintage and often rough-around-edges African-flavored funk, soul, jazz and psych. From the 1960s and 1970s, this music comes from South Africa, though not all of it necessarily (I believe) from the famous South West Townships (Soweto) outside Johannesburg. It owes a lot to Stax and other soul/ funk labels, but it also has a tons of South African influences, particularly lots of mbaqanga (township jive) in the sounds. Recommended if you like funk, soul or African music. There's even something for jazz lovers.

My picks: 1, 3, 5, 8, 13, 15, 17, 21 FCC: none
(I tried to put a pronunciation guide for Zulu words in titles.)
1. "koo-BAN-ee". Garage funk with African influences. Completely awesome.
2. slow garage funk with heavy hammond organ.
3. "nnnKOOL-eez" Shuffle. Med-fast funky jazz shuffle. Nice horn lines.
4. "TEE-ba KAH-moh" Wah-wah-guitar heavy psych-funk. Sounds like it would be in the soundtrack to a '70s psychedelic porn film.
5. "a-koo-LAL-wa eh-soh-WEH-too". Med-slow mbaqanga with a bit of funk flavor. Sort of has an awesome hypnotic quality to it.
6. organ-heavy funk groove.
7. Soul Time "nnzih-MAN-day" Go. Instrumental funk groove like Booker T or the Bar Kays (even sounds like "Soul Finger" a bit).
8. "woh-ZAN' mah-HEE-pee". Growler male vocals (with hard swinging female backups) in a heavy funk grove.
9. "SKOH-pom"? Mid tempo instrumental. Nice organ-lead soul funk. Love the bass line.
10. Soul "IM-bahk" (there's actually a click at the end.) Laid-back jazzy soul groove with saxophone lead.
11. "gwin-YEE-tshay". Laid-back funk with drawn-out vocals and prominent organ.
12. Mid-tempo, upbeat instrumental jam with a soul-funk feel.
13. "bah-ZAH-lee bahm". Mid-tempo song with sweet vocals and equal parts soul and mbaqanga influences. Nice result.
14. Med-fast organ-and-drum driven funk. Laid-back, repetitive vocals slide into the groove. Sort of a travel song, calling out various locals in Southern Africa.
15. "in-tahn-DAHN-ay" Nice guitar lines drive this funk groove with a "Chameleon" bassline. Group vocals.
16. Med-slow, two chord funk jam. A bit repetitive for me.
17. Slow, organ-heavy groove. Rough around the edges in a good way.
18. Medium tempo instrumental funky jazz.
19. Med-fast hard-hitting funk with an organ lead. Nice song but I wish it went somewhere after the first 30 seconds.
20. med-slow instrumental organ groove.
21. med-slow instrumental funk groove with nice piano work leading it.
22. "sah-DOO-vah" Slow psych-out but with funky guitar and horns in it.
