Apparat has been flirting with Modeselektor lately under the wonderful Moderat alias. His latest output, however, returns to his own deep and ambient sound with less Berlin powerplant techno and more melodic feel. Pay special attention to the texture of all these tracks and just how well he manages to blend in acoustic instruments with the deepest, rumbling dubstep around.
FCC: Clean, Try: 8, 15, 17, 21
1) Fast, acoustic opener
2) Crunchy drums right away
3) Dreamy vocals, wavy synths and snappy snare
4) Short, classic Apparat. Ambient and moody
5) Tense percussion and chilled pads
6) Feels like a transition, ends up with a deeper vibe
7) Catchy & rushing bell line
8) * Martyn is top notch! Dark, Berghain vibes on this one
9) Rough percussion and unpolished bass sounds
10) Odd main synth line, transitioning to a minimal vibe
11)* Disjointed feel, very clear contrasts with cool drums
12)* Layered synths, obscure vocals, classic Four Tet remix.
13) Strips the sprinkles and goes for straight up ambient techno
14) Simple, organic. Rattling percussion, reverb synth sounds
15) ** Orgasmic. Burial/Four Tet with moody 2-step-techno
16) Pumps up the tempo. Driving hi-hats, techy & conga-y
17) ** Twisted dubstep/house with awesome breakdown
18) * Thom Yorke’s voice is still beautiful. Soft & electronic
19) Keeps Yorke’s guitar in the background, turns darker
20) Super deep, innocent synth line
21) ** Superb modern dubstep with sampled female vocals
22) Heavily processed guitars and hectic drums
23) * Deep, rubbing, organic dubstep
24) Dramatic with long fade out
