Album Review
Be Sharp
Reviewed 2011-03-07
Joe Iadanza’s big tenor voice may remind one of Cat Stevens or Harry Chapin. The second album from this young singer-songwriter-guitarist spans folk, alt-country, & Americana. This will be too sappy and romantic for some tastes, but if you like romantic singer-songwriters, you’ll love this. Describing this music song-by-song is hard, as they’re all mainly just Joe strumming or picking his electric-acoustic and singing his songs. Accompaniment (variously strings, piano, accordion, backing vocals) is kept quiet and simple. What makes each song different is the lyric.
No FCC issues. Be Sharp’s Picks: 6, 7, 5, 3, 1

1. * He’s lost his father, been off to war, come back to find he’s lost a lover. (4:30)
2. He’s lonely and alienated. It’s ok, but not a highlight. (4:43)
3. * A lil bit o’ country. Nice picking. More violin, accordion & voices than others. (4:32)
4. Sad and forlorn: he’s trying to find meaning in life after losing someone. (5:34)
5. ** Title track, a slow ballad. Guitar is strummed. Singing is quite good, completely in control. Has a very nice female backing vocal (4:10)
6. ** A slow, pretty love song in style of a Guy Clark or a Townes Van Zandt. Nice folk-style guitar picking and background strings. (3:21)
7. ** A touching love song to his wife & the mother of his children. Added to the usual guitar & strings is a lovely descant melody on piano. (3:55)
8. Tedious, with chant-like singing and a three-chord progression repeated ad nauseum. The least interesting song here. (4:34)
9. Another love song. He strains to get into a higher register he doesn’t really have. (3:57)
10. Workin’ hard to make ends meet. Old as Woody Guthrie, new as Tom Morello. (4:14)
