Sheetah et les Weissmuller – Hola Ye Yeah!
Reviewed by Sadie O., 7/7/10
French garage-rock, totally “Nuggets”-worthy. Ravers, yet delicious to your ear-balls. Mostly quite similar sounding, but when you’ve hit on a good sound, might as well milk it.
All in French – didn’t hear any “merde”, but who knows.
1. 2:37 ***4/4 rave-up with farfisa intro and vocal harmonies.
2. 3:24 **classic frug with a hint of psychedelia.
3. 2:28 ***uptempo happy bouncy, twistable.
4. 3:37 **uptempo bouncy with just a hint of minor key – happiest little hallucinations I ever heard. Just a soupçon of vibrato on the guitar… Gets a bit weird by 2/3 of the way through, though…
5. 2:46 ***more uptempo bouncy – reminds me of the Monkees’ forays into the mildly drug-addled. Which is to say it’s great garage-pop.
6. 3:37 ****farfisa and howls intro… then uptempo bouncy with howls a la Cramps. Mai oui! False ending 1:10 from end, starts up again. No idea why.
7. 2:39 ***reminds me a bit of an upbeat “Secret Agent Man”.
8. 4:08 ***sitar intro, so it much be a psychedelic number. A bit disjointed. That’s how trips are…
9. 2:21 **cover of the Love classic, but more… well… upbeat and bouncy. Props for their appreciation of my homies, but there’s no real reason not to play the original instead. Sorry Weissmullers!
10. 2:06 **Do the Pony. NOW. Good organ break.
11. 2:28 **more uptempo and energetic stuff, yep.
12. 3:51 **happy garage pop.
