Pacific Theater – Animals At Night (Whale Heart Records) Doublestuf
Shoegazy folk rock with a more polished production that brings a darker Arcade Fire to mind. The tracks vary from electronic kit shoe gaze to acoustic folk and this band still needs to find its identity, but their great use of organic sounding synths and the quiet passion of the vocalist are what set this amazing record apart for me. It oozes that slow chugging feeling that folk and shoe-gaze are so good at while maintaining the energy with really vivid story telling. So sit back and gaze at your shoes. This here is a journey. 1. 9 min long building epic that usually ends a record. But this starts things off perfectly with an energetic repeated melody. If you have the time, definitely worth playing.
2. ****Such a catchy bass. Dual vocalists. 4:48
3. ***Spacey acoustic guitar focused song. Like bon iver but with a sexy beat and an accordian. 4:14
4. Synth and drum kit focused. 5:06
5. Short acoustic interlude 1:22
6. Chugging constant beat. 4:14
7. *The way he sinks, and the focus on electric guitar reminds me of Interpol here. Jarring and dissonant sometimes. 4:02
8. Chiller, electric space. 3:40
9. **Shoe tapper. It’s catchy phrases that break into jagged guitar spaz is something worth playing. 5:25
10. Piano ballad. Simple. Relevant. Doesn’t overdue anything. 4:19
