Ragnar of Ravensfjord Reviewed 2009-11-28 | ||
Hits, rare tracks & outtakes from the Italian horror/suspense soundtrack masters & prog rock band. The latter is often true but Goblin’s work also encompasses jazz, electronic ambience/classical compositions and a helping of disco/funk. Known mostly for their work with Italian legendary horror director, Dario Argento. Their work remains very much a focal point of Argento’s films helping underscore the anticipation of the drama & terror. Plus, there’s some TV theme songs, and some non-Argento based soundtracks. ((((((((1)))))))) Proggy, bombastic & grandiose “Phantom of the Opera” organ effect and slightly funky drums & bass-a classic fer sure! (((((2))))) Groovy jazz-funk with very 70’s style guitar and Latin-African percussion. (((((3))))) Short & abrupt bits of jazzy piano & wah-wah guitar (((((4)))))) Rather good extension #3-just add bass & more guitar. (((((((5))))))) Airy, cycling electronics, “maniac on the loose killing people with his mind” effect. ((((((6)))))) Slow jazzy warble & “meow” into MEGA-FUNKY 70’s TV theme. (((((((((7)))))))) Epic Electro-Jazz-Prog-Funk awesomeness in just 3:20. (((8))) Tea-kettle, dramatic ambience. ((((9)))) Short dark ambience & drama brewing. ((10)) New Agey-fwep-fweps (((((((((((((11))))))))))) Goblin & Argento 101. From one of the best movies & soundtracks EVER made! (((((12))))) Very nice 70’s slide guitar work (‘ala David Gilmour or Camel’s Andy Latimer) & some good bass moves. (((((13))))) Slow, sorta spacey electronics, clock-like percussion. (((((14))))) Lots “tsst-tsst” cymbals, jazz-funk with short-step grooves. ((((((15)))))) Wild, loose, proggy-jazz, percussion jam. Amazing playing all around. ((((((((16))))))))) Another QUINTESSENTIAL movie theme. This is from the original Dawn of the Dead (called Zombi in Europe). (((((17)))))) Mellow, minimal piano & bass. (((((((18)))))) Trip-EEE electronic psych into electro-disco vibe. ((((((((19))))))) Bloopy, electro-disco grooves (((20))) Sappy guitar & light synth ((((21)))) Dramatic, electronic “wheeep”, “dun-naa”, “mer-ort”. Sounds like a seal trapped in a horror movie. ((((22)))) Cheap-o 80’s synth but neat as it is. ((((((((((23)))))))))) Best robot electro-disco-synth-chamber-prog rock ever! Giorgio Morodor eat your heart out! ((((((24))))) Slinky, bassy fusion-funk ((((((25)))))) Cold, dark & airy ambience. (((((26)))))) Dramatic piano theme with nice choral voices and video-gamey-spooky “speed-prog”. ((((((27)))))) Slow dark ambient with some progy synths & clangy percussion. Works best while viewing undead templars. |
