Jazz quartet with sax and vibraphone; modern/free composing ideas and some improvised tracks that sometimes fall into grooves and riffs but also offer plenty of free/abstract playing (2,4,7,8). It's four old guys in the band. Louie Belogenis throws in some energetic sax, and Karl Berger on vibes is terrific as well.
For something catchy, try 2 or 6 ... or 4, which starts out abstract but develops a groove.
Michael Bisio - bass, composing (on the non-improvised tracks)
Karl Berger - vibes, piano
Louie Belogenis - tenor sax
Warren Smith - drums
1- Slow; a cross between lovely and foreboding, based on a nice bass theme
2- A strong pulsing bass, tense piano. A really good mid/fast track
3- Dribbly theme, into fast fast soloing
4- Dark, grumpy. Noisy sawed bass, sax gets spastic and harsh (but not overly loud). Gets into a driven little groove that's quite nice.
5- A slowish, wandering piece, with spirited drums
6- Bright and swingy.
7- Improvised. A slow and big sound, with buzzy sax
8- Eleven-minute improvised piece. Buzzy, towering mid/slow sax early on; a splashy vibes solo in the middle.
9- Reprise of 1, with vibraphone added. There's a relaxed and open bass solo late in the piece, with Bisio playing a warbling and wandering pizzicato behind quiet vibes and drums.
