Co-founder of the 60’s Blues Project with Al Kooper, Kalb performs here mostly with a trio, covering tunes by the likes of Willie Dixon, Little Richard, John Lee Hooker, et al. Mostly acoustic with some harmonica, organ and slide guitar. Great guitar work by Kalb. All songs worth a play. I like 3, 4, 10, 12, 13. No FCC’s.

1. (3:49) Mid. Doors’ ‘Break On Through’ guitar riff, surf-ish tones, drumsticks on the rims, soft-edge vocal delivery, understated instrumentation.
2. (4:13) Mid. Stripped-down version of the Little Richard classic. Great acoustic guitar work, dreamy soundscape under some nice drum-work. Fades out.
3. (3:35) Fast. Great acoustic strumming, quick drumming, awesome vocal breaks. Driving and urgent, with tempo shifts. GREAT STUFF!
4. (6:15) Slow. Sweet slide guitar, introspective lyrics, a real-deal blues number.
5. (2:35) Slow/Mid. Outdoorsy tune with harmonica, laid-back.
6. (3:44) Slow/Mid. Some great electric soloing, about getting out of NYC.
7. (3:32) Slow. Nice hammering-on guitar work on this John Lee Hooker tune. Very quiet and sparse, true to the original, yet a distinctive take.
8. (3:28) Mid. Great jaunt through this Jimmy Reed tune, nice guitar solos, drumming.
9. (3:36) Slow/Mid. Dreamy and ominous with organ. A Kalb original.
10.(3:12) Mid. Title track. Great, great guitar work even though a bit understated. Very tight and bright.
11.(3:24) Slow/Mid. Very introspective, with nice harmonica work.
12.(4:59) Mid/Fast. Great interplay between guitars. Forward drums, upbeat against the violent elements of the lyrics.
13.(5:11) Mid. A Joe Williams classic performed with great gusto. A live version with some awesome playing by all.
14.(4:31) Slow. Another Kalb original, very quiet echoing the title of the song. Good for early morning/late night play.
