Sax/violin-led quartet. Modern compositions that are plenty accessible but don't follow the usual "jazz" chords and harmonies. It's quite melody-driven, like Ornette Coleman or Tim Berne, where the "melody" often paints with a Euro/classical brush (or maybe that's just the influence of the violin on my brain).
- Tense, fleet riffing after a slow start. Definite Euro-cafe influence, catchy.
- Serious start, into some rapid unison playing, a bit jittery. Then a sparse, slow sax improv.
- Sneaky mid/fast beat, quiet but not so calm
- Fast, kinda Klezmery flight. Rapid 5/8 pulse, really draws you in.
- Slow and artsy. Lots of abstract drum improv.
- Very fast theme. A quiet interlude early on, then some riffs for double soloing of sax plus all manner of percussion.
- A lovely dusky melody. Very out-there improv middle.
- Slowish classical drama. Nice bowed-bass solo.
- Flitty, flighty. Stacatto feel.
- Pleasantly staggering; nicely adventurous viola solo
- Quick classical pulse, maybe a touch of minimalism. An intriguing short piece.
- Pastoral. Comforting sax riff, tender violin solo, rattly but light drumming.
