Tropical indie rock, maybe? With a touch of '60s/70s soul. Male vocals and a kind of West African/Caribbean band with horns, generous percussion, and girly backup singers. Tempos are upbeat but the songs feel downcast -- protest-minded lyrics to forget-your-troubles beats. An unpolished sound, like it's truly a band of the streets. Horms are nicely out of step sometimes. Vocals are raw and shaky, which adds some nice depth, but on a couple tracks (7,9) it gets to be a bit much. Great stuff, especially tracks 4-7.
Adrian Orange is male, by the way. The phrase "Her Band" is just there to mess with us, I guess.
- Thumping mid/fast beat. Big, brief horns, catchy sung lines
- *FCC* Mid/fast
- Slowish. Sad swaying.
- Charging mid/fast, heavy on the horns. Very '60s organ solo.
- Big horns, mid/fast. Grabs your attention, then slips into quieter vocals in a fast-patter space.
- Soulful, strong midtempo. Cool guitar jangle, strong horns.
- Midtempo chugging. Vocals wail a bit; sax solo squawks and wails a lot.
- *FCC* "fuck" multiple times. Sultry Latin/Caribbean feel, midtempo.
- Reggae feel, slowish. Crazy backwards-tape breakdown adds a spacey moment.
- Voice and acoustic guitar, a nice ending.
