Animal Collective – “Peacebone” (Single)

This is a small taste of Animal Collective’s new album Strawberry Jam. The music and lyrics are easier to listen to (physiologically speaking) than past albums. By this, I mean that the music is still unsystematic and peculiar – but delivered with more lucidity than Sung Tongs or Feels. Overall, the Animal Collective tracks are worth a few listens…and the two remixes are average. (BEST TRACKS = 1,2)

1) Intense opener. Schizophrenic keys to start. Bouncy guitar. Avey Tare’s lyrics have more clarity than previous Animal Collective albums. Intermittent drums and horns. Female vocals in chorus complement Tare’s nicely. Crazy screaming at times.
2) Shadowy piano and spooky sounds. Lyrics tell a disjointed and haunting story. Song lightens up at 3:30 and sounds GREAT the rest of the way. Shaker is present along with other reggae influences.
3) Crappy REMIX of #1. Even more schizophrenic than original. Skip this.
4) Better REMIX of # 1…but only slightly reminiscent of #1. Dance beats. Second half of the song is good.
