Piano/trumpet duets. Spry stuff steeped in standards jazz and rich with tradition, but each track is a long wandering stroll through improvised territory. The kind of playful, casual dialogue you'd expect from two masters -- in this case, one longtime veteran (Solal) and one relative newcomer (Douglas).
First six tracks are originals. The last four are standards; while still nicely creative, they carry a more cohesive feel and an old-jazz charm.
- Spurty, mid/fast
- Stately, with a slow feel
- Mid/fast messing around, playful feel, bright
- Serious but pretty, kind of slow
- Chamber feel, midtempo
- Playful, even goofy
- Jumbly showtune reading; upbeat and off-kilter
- Low unmuted trumpet leads a brisk "Body and Soul," nice
- Quieter, fairly slow, but still some sly "outside" winks
- Peaceful standard with lots of jumbly asides thrown in; slow feel but has moments of chaos.
