[coll]: FRANCOPHONE SINGLES, OCTOBER 2005

In September 2005, KZSU rejoined the Francophonie Diffusion network, which sends us new CDs from France and French-speaking countries. We get a lot of singles as part of this arrangement; here are the better ones from October. Styles range from straight-up French pop to Caribbean hiphop!

FO’S PICKS: 1, 2, 3

1. Alain Souchon – “Et si en plus y'a personne,” from La Vie Théodore (4:08)
Pretty, moody midtempo pop song: earnest male vocals, synth swirls

2. I Muvrini – “Iè,” from Alma (3:39)
Upbeat folksy pop-march with an African flair, very nice backing vox

3. Pakatak – “Je suis d’ici,” from Best of Pakatak (4:58)
From Martinique: upbeat & fun zouk, bright guitars, bouncy bass, nice vox

4. Pakatak – “Twop sel,” from Best of Pakatak (4:17)
Slower, with a heavy bounce: lots of keyboards, fun vocals, funky bass

5. Admiral T feat Square One – “Move Together,” from Mozaik Kreyol (3:40)
Dancehall ragga from Guadeloupe: silly English vox, but excellent rapping!
