Check out the promo sticker for info/background about "it-boy"/superfreak Ariel Pink. It's pretty hard to do a track-by-track for this since besides being a little weird in content, the songs are weird in structure. But I think the genius of Ariel Pink is in the way all his songs sound oddly familiar. Listening to his work is almost like driving through unfamiliar parts (and maybe into a time warp) switching through the crazy lower ranges of the FM dial—flickering signals merging into each other. This effect describes not only the album as a whole but sometimes each song. Crazy! But there's no, or little, found sound here. Everything meticulously recorded by Ariel Pink himself. It's a little campy—but not as much as the videos he makes for his songs. Expect anything (including demonic voices urging you to commit suicide) in these twisted lo-fi "pop" songs but drums—he prefers making odd noises with his mouth. FCCs: 1, 5 (can't hear any swears but tells you to commit suicide/kill somebody), 9, 10, 11, 13, 16 (if BITCH is an FCC) Everything has its own distinct charms but of the FCC clean I like: 4, 6, 7, 8, 17 |
