Sun Ra – Heliocentric Worlds Vol. 3

Outtakes from the sessions that produced Ra’s “Heliocentric Worlds” albums in 1965. The first track is a long jam featuring the 3 saxes and the rest of the album seems to be sketches for longer compositions. Interesting stuff.

1. Long, wild sax battle to start featuring Ra playing some percussive Cecil Taylorish piano underneath. The rest of the band joins about 10 min in.
*2. Fast percussion clatter, ends abruptly
**3. Slow swing with dramatic piano, interesting creepy ending
*4. Very laid back (yet dissonant) big band swing
**5. Raucous big band, again evoking Cecil Taylor
