The Ultimate Nusrat F.A. Khan Vol. 2 Narada, 2005
The fascination with mining the legacy of Nusrat continues in this 2-disc set of
previously unreleased music from 1983-84. Nusrat’s voice is clear and unrestrained
and all the elements we are accustomed to hearing are present. Much exuberance
and many ululations, a worthy addition to the canon.
Faves: CD2, #1,2 (Dr D 06-05)
(All track titles and times on back of case)
CD 1
1.Med/fast, varied pace. solo vox accompanied by Party of 4-5 add’l vox, good drumming
2 Med, fairly consistent tempo throughout. Prominent Party vox, in places almost a duet.
Fades away (as if cut) about 17:43.
CD 2
1.Med, very melodious, softer and modulated for the most part, occasional bursts
2.Med. Begins with two instrumental motifs on what sounds like a clarinet and
mandolin, then Nusrat enters with Party acc; the rest of the piece flows from there
3.Slow/med, harmonium starts. Lots of ensemble singing, Party gets a chance to shine
4.Slow/med, harmonium begins, then alternating solo vox; Party comes in at 4:07
