Emo with a cello. Male vocals, high and fragile, mostly about love and loss. Some songs are sweet and propulsive, others murkily dark. There’s a really nice acoustic guitar, serviceable cello and vocals, but some songs are sullied by a cheesy drum machine. FCC’s: Track 3
Track 1: Spare dark intro. Builds slowly to a brighter, more layered sound, with drums, cello, acoustic guitar, voice. (4:56)
Track 2: Sweet, with an insistent guitar rhythm. Lyrics: “I miss you.” Ends with one dwindling note. (3:14)
Track 3: FCC: fucking, although I’m not totally sure. (2:26)
Track 4: About fireworks, and some chick. Double-tracked vocals. Minor key, happy lyrics. “This is what it feels like / to want nothing more.” (3:59)
Track 5: Short instrumental. Vile drum machine rhythms. Sunny guitar line. Organ! (1:12)
Track 6: Childlike, surreal story. Bright, rhythmic. Abrupt ending. (4:20)
Track 7: ** Slow quiet intro. Cello against solo vocals. Vaguely reminiscent of an a capella spiritual. Dark. Acoustic guitar & drums come in and sound brightens halfway through, with occasional returns to spareness. (4:30)
Track 8: Very short instrumental. More of the vile drum machine and wavy organ. (0:31)
Track 9: Long quiet drum machine intro. Rhythmic guitar and storytelling vocals. Clapping. Ends with yelping. (4:28)
Track 10: Murky plucked cello. How much pitch bending can there be before something is just out of tune? Slow. (4:45)
Track 11: ** Lucscious intro with sustained cello and plucked acoustic guitar. Vocals have a waltzy rhythm. (3:00)
Track 12: Instrumental. Folky strummed guitar. Vile drum machine. (0:37)
Track 13: Cheesy drum machine and sustained backing vocals remind me of Enigma. (4:36)
Track 14: Bright metallic-sounding strummed guitar with mumbly vocals. Choral-esqe baking vocals multitracked. (4:18)
