Maroon – Endorsed by Hate (Abacus)
Vegan, straightedge, German metalcore. Straight forward, mid paced heavy music with more in common with thrash than with hardcore. This never gets very fast, the vocals are very throaty, they lift a few tricks from Slayer and have a lot in common with bands like Cataract and Heaven Shall Burn. They throw in a few nice melodic sections, which have a slight Swedish sound. They’ve toned down the vegan straightedge thing and are more about the end of the world.
**2. Quick with standard metalcore riff and a constant double bass drum attack. End of the world lyrics. Funny thing is, this sounds more like newer American metal, like Lamb of God.
3. FCC. Big pounding drum intro into a basic riff and a somewhat tired breakdown but then they surprise by quickly going into a melodic guitar riff that I like. They then get into a nice gallop. This track seems like more of a collection of riffs than a song. Dumb chorus.
4. Complete Slayer ripoff on the opening riff into a slow heavy riff. The intro goes on for half the track. Reminds me of older Caliban.
**5. In and out of a nice gallop and a melodic chorus. Standard straightedge lyrics.
6. Nice sample at the beginning about different species killing other species. Lame spoken clean vocals for parts of the track.
**7. 1 FCC that’s hard to hear. Nice thrash riff with samples and heavy handed straightedge lyrics.
**9. Quick thrasher with harsh lyrics you can understand. The first sign of the vegan lyrics.
10. This sounds stiff. 11. Noize (wind?) intro into very metal sounding guitar.
Good stuff -mph
