Three superlative pieces peformed by sitar maestro Vilayat Khan who died last year after a path-breaking six decade long career in Hindustani classical music. The three ragas presented here progress melodically from low to high octaves and in tempo from slow to fast, and Khan's performance is masterful as you'd expect.
Track 1: Basic exploration of Raga marwa against the drone of a tanpura, haunting and rich in melody and timber
Track 2: Great tabla playing accompanies Khan's subtle and largely melodic treatment of the raga
**Track 3: Lyrical and pyrotechnic, Khan dazzles with powerful strokeplay and fretwork artistry
