Album Review

Cub Country started off as a side project for Jets to Brazil bassist Jeremy Chatelian and a revolving cast of other NY punk/indie musicians to try their hands at urban folkiness. Since then Cub Country has solidified its lineup and relocated to North Carolina. This sophomore album was recorded over a 2 year period in Brooklyn, SLC, and Chapel Hill and has a sort of wandering/searching sound to prove it. Chatelain has an unassuming and comforting voice and when he sings he sounds like an old friend. The sound here is mid-tempo indie rock with just enough twang and country heartfelt-ness; enjoyable Americana. FCC Clean.

**1. Nice touches of Rhodes synth weaved in. About growing up and letting go.
**2. Upbeat twangy melody.
3. Lap steel. Sparser, acoustic song with some female backing vocals.
4. Rockier tune.
5. Dramatic percussion breaks; bittersweet song that kind of gets ruined by the la la las.
6. Nice; musings about the night-to-night simplicity of beers and cigarettes at bars with friends.
7. Nice female vocals mix in at times. Simple guitar and lap steel number.
8. More poppy sounding electric guitars. Chatelain's voice doesn't seem to quite work over catchier arrangements.
**9. Long track. Quiet and moving; saying goodbye is hard sometimes.
10. Nice optimistic lo-fi closer.
