Really Red were one of several or so killer early 80’s underground/punk/hardcore bands from Houston. (Culturcide would be another though more underground & weird enough to likely fit into the initial outsider-ness of the initial punk/hardcore movement). Political without being too obvious & hugely talented. Sounding like bits n’ pieces of The Weirdos, Minutemen, DKs & The Dils but certainly with something of their own.
(((((1)))) A political punk classic. Punk in that it’s all about ‘not fitting in’ whilst having your own take on personal politics. (FCCs: 0:25 “shit”)
((((2)))) More of an L.A. punk vibe. Somewhere around Fear meets the Minutemen? Pretty damn solid no matter how you look at it.
((((3)))) Loose punk off-kilter vibe ‘ala Minutemen questioning “the revolution” or lack thereof.
(((((4))))) Starts off slow & sort of funky and then goes into DKs style with crazy 60’s surf-styled guitars. Excellent lyrics dealing with paranoid cops. (No FCCs just some bluntness with some racial epithets but it’s just used for “point of view” sake not to be racist)
((((5)))) Excellent late 70’s/early 80’s punk. Somewhere around the Dils meets D.O.A.
((((6)))) Uptempo rocker with some killer riffing.
((((7)))) (FCCs 0:18 “shitty”)
Weird jazz/punk number with “cat on the piano” effect. Lyrics written by one of Your Imaginary Friend’s favorites - Culutrcide.
((((8)))) Kind of like Fear’s “Beef Baloney” except this is about BBQ.
(((((9)))) Uptempo, simple & to the point.
((((10)))) An honest love-letter to the famous Nico. Nice, 60’s garage infuenced punk meets post-punk (Wire, Joy Division). Killer drumbeats & bass playing.
((((11)))) (FCC “shit” 0:46) Groovy & super-catchy yet political.
(((((12))))) Super-simple & to the point. This is STILL so relevant to today it’s not even funny! (Also on the classic “Let Them Eat Jellybeans” comp).
(((13))) Basic early, L.A. - style punk
((((14)))) Damn, this sounds like Joy Division & Wire meets No Means No. You can’t go wrong with that combo.
(((((15)))) Fuckin’ awesome & super-hardcore punk. Story about a heavy metal guitar wanker that becomes a narc.
(((((16)))) Straight-ahead punker that dissed but of the KKK & JDL (Jewish Defense League a psychotic Jewish-supremacist organization who similar to the Klan in many ways).
((((17)))) (FCC: “shit” 0:11) Wild punk rock with insightful lyrics, what more do you need?
(((18))) Jagged-jazz/punk number ‘ala The Minutemen. Pretty nice
