Khan is a master of the robab, a traditional Afghan lute. Here he presents six folk and classical pieces accompanied by Yama Karim on tabla and Dorran Ahmad Sadozai on tanbura. The trio’s interpretations of the traditional tunes are rich, unique and often intense. Great stuff.
Track 1: Warmup piece in 16 beat cycle. Tempo moves from very slow to very fast as the track progresses.
Track 2: Interesting interplay between the textured beat of the tabla and the sinewy jangle of the robab. Traditional mid-tempo composition.
Track 3: Some energetic tabla playing. Traditional folk song in 6 beat cycle.
Track 4: Another ghazal, similar to #2.
Track 5, 6: Folk tunes based on raag pahadi, a famous mountain melody. Cheery and playful.
