This split features "apocalyptic-core" from Seattle vs. ripping black metal from Portland and the winner is...you the listener!
Wormwood side:
A mix of Morgion, Man Is The Bastard, mid-period Neurosis. The Neurosis influence seems to be the strongest overall with the gloomy aesthetic and rather bleak & reflective lyrics. There's an interesting sample of a child talking about a route "to inner peace". The vocals aren't always "on" but generally, the structure & instrumentation is awesome!
Fall Of The Bastards side:
This is some of the BEST if not THE best new Black Metal I heard in all of 2003. The vocals are rather twisted & distorted often recalling that local "plague wielder", Leviathan. There's also a little bit of death metal vocals on a few lines, as well as some keyboards. These keyboards are more 'accents' rather than the glossy awfulness that so-called "extreme metal" bands like Arch Enemy can't use to save their lives. Anyway, this is defintely a band you'll wanna hear more from.
