Someplace between straight 70s hard rock and doom metal. Veteran doom-ster Wino (St. Vitus, The Obsessed, Spirit Caravan) is the guitarist and vocalist. This hard rock is a bit different from a lot of 70s hard rock and doom in that a lot of the lyrics are political and easy to understand so it gives this a punk feel. It’s also faster than most doom and the added speed and retro sound places it someplace between Black Sabbath and the MC5.
**1. Classic Wino guitar riff, with lots of slides, that has no doubt influenced the likes of Sleep and High on Fire. Wonder what the hell this song is about. “They got missiles pointed at your barn, don’t like your book.”
**2. Heavy Thin Lizzy? Sad earth, take care of the earth theme. Catchy chorus after quick solo.
**3. Faster and short. Rockin!
4. Rock-n-roll riff that could have come out of Detroit in the early 70s that turns into simple rock riff. Vocals have a dead pan delivery that I’m not sure works.
5. Rockin instrumental. Another nice mix of sounds. Some really heavy, some MC5 style rock/punk, and some almost psychedelic.
6. Rips on the TV/Media. Slow and plodding.
**7. More melodic and well, spiritual but still not happy. Classic psych effect on the vocals.
**8. Full on doom. Begins with a great scream of “I’ve seen the end of the world.”
**9. Straight ahead fast rocker.
**10. Very different from the rest of the tracks. This has a slow, quiet buildup with guitar feedback and menacing drums. Nice dreamy, feedback laden guitar.
Damn good stuff -mph
