Israel Vibration is a seminal roots reggae group that cut several groundbreaking albums in the seventies and eighties. Ever since the mid-nineties, I believe, they’ve existed as a two-some (they were once a three-person group). This album, while lacking the rougher production I personally typically prefer, offers up some solid tracks, especially considering how this scene has changed. Not bombastic like much of dancehall nor irritating like so many so-called “dub” mixes that have come into vogue. Vocals are always ear-pleasing signature Israel Vibration and the music itself incorporates enough of an array of instruments to stay interesting. Thematically, it deals mostly with personal/cultural issues. Not the most exciting album, but worth a listen.

My picks:
1 Incorporates a vague eastern sensibility.
3 Mellow but with an understated tension.
5, 6 Rocksteady influence but almost too smooth-sounding.
7 Darker, slightly anthemic.
