Craig Matsumoto Reviewed 2003-05-19 | ||
Very nice R&B-influenced jazz, led by Hunter on 8-stringed guitar. As you probably know, he plays the guitar and bass lines simultaneously, and often tweaks the guitar sound to mimic a B-3 organ. His writing is upbeat and funky. He's got a good band here. John Ellis provides some meaty tenor-sax solos, and Gregoire Maret on "chromatic harmonica" adds a bluesy/bucolic sound. Fun stuff. Every track is worth a spin. 1- Midtempo with wacky swirling from sax & harmonica 2- Slow street funk 3- Latin feel, but a bit offbeat 4- Midtempo, loping, bluesy 5- Midtempo funk 6- Latin interlude featuring harmonica 7- Gospel tune done as an upbeat blues 8- Fast shuffle 9- Interlude ... w/drum machine? 10- Midtempo 11- Midtempo, with odd rhythm 12- Slyly funky 13- Slowish w/happy staggering theme |
