THE MOLDY PEACHES – Unreleased Cutz & Live jamz (1994-2002)
As if lo-fi recording wasn’t enough, these New York kids have released 55 tracks of live recordings plus some unreleased material. Although it’s a bit annoying that there are often 3 to 4 live versions of the same song, it’s evident that they had a lot of fun on tour playing their comical indie pop and country, with a dirtier edge especially in the earlier recordings (Disc A). In general, Disc B is better recorded and shows them with a tighter band, which doesn’t quite work for their aesthetic (the same thing happened to ween!). Despite the fact that they could have reduced this to one CD, there are some great catchy, cute, funny, and rockin’ songs here. Think also of the Magnetic Fields, sometimes.
DISC A - pretty/cute: 4, 6, 23, 31. raucous: 7, 13.
DISC B – 19, 2, 7, 11.
here is a rather useless breakdown:
