FRENCH SINGLES, SEPTEMBER 2002
Various Labels, 2002
FRANCE – In September, KZSU began getting service from a promo company that distributes new music from France. Good stuff, too. The only problem is they send us CD-singles, and we don’t add those. So I’m going to burn them into nice, addable compilations. There’s a range of pop music here, some jazzy, some global, some rockin’. All worth a spin.
IF YOU PLAY SOMETHING FROM HERE, PLEASE ANNOUNCE IT AS A SINGLE. DON’T MENTION THIS COMPILATION; CORRECT ALBUM AND LABEL INFO IS ON THE BOOKLET.
Fo’s Picks: 1, 5, 6, 9
01. 3:43 – think Tom Waits: solo piano waltz and super-raspy vocal
02. 3:00 – live; starts more pensive than #1 but has an energetic clap-along chorus
03. 4:08 – jazzy slow-dance ballad from the master: slinky rhythm, sunny trumpet break
04. 3:43 – catchy indie-rock; driving chorus and ending
05. 3:54 – Africanized, with a touch of 80’s guitar-pop: perky backing and pleasant vocals
06. 4:54 – indie sound with electric & acoustic guitar, deadpan vocal, cute melody
07. 3:22 – mellow: just acoustic guitar and vocal; add melancholy cello 2nd half
08. 3:02 – midtempo Latin pop, with salsa piano & unison horns, interesting blend
09. 3:57 – eclectic sound: catchy medium reggae/ska beat w/ good group vocals
10. 4:28 – electronic remix of track 5: quick beats
