Schifrin, Lalo: The Cincinnati Kid Label: Aleph Records
Even though I haven’t seen “The Cincinnati Kid” – the soundtrack evokes all the associations I’d have with a film about gambling & women (apparently Ann-Margaret starred in this along w/ Steve McQueen). This soundtrack is great. Perfect for jazz shows, or use as a soundbed. Try: 1,2,3,4,6,10.
1. classy film theme - smooth vox by young Ray Charles, big horns
2. mellow symphonic ballad - really nice & romantic waltz melody
3. silly & goofy bluegrass rhythm with bouncey banjo action
4. kind of spy (think "Pink Panther"), nice jazzy horns
5. instrumental cues straight from the movie soundtrack
6. big-band swing - stylish & sassy shuffle
7. instrumental version of main theme - with big orchestration
8. horns like New Orleans style funeral, w/ gospel interlude
9. more instrumental cues straight from the movie soundtrack
10. really swanky & sexy, piano & sax jazz number... mmmm....
11. instrumental extension from movie soundtrack - atmosphere
12. instrumental extension from movie soundtrack - slow
13. collage of movie cues setting dramatic tone
14. movie cues that include main theme
