Chastity Belt’s energy is like a circuit, circling around the silly and the sincere. Tongue-in-cheek shit-shooting and existential rumination feed into each other infinitely. No doubt when a band releases a self-titled album well into their career it is meant to declare something definitive or revelatory. In Chastity Belt’s case, their upcoming album reveals itself to be a deeply personal reflection of growing up and being a part of something bigger than oneself. Like: Diet Cig, Speedy Ortiz, Jay Som, Snail Mail FCC Clean Play: 1,3,5,7,10 1.Ann's Jam (4:56) Slow Tempo gentle harmonics and quiet drive. 2.Elena (3:20) Sullen crooning and fuzzed-out, sour guitar riffs. 3.Effort (5:07) Repetitive chugging guitars grow hypnotic across this track 4.Rav-4 (3:39) An ethereal grace that’s a far cry from the grungey garage-pop. 5.It Takes Time (4:04) A plea for patience while utilizing a sunlit Shoegaze approach. 6.Apart (3:33) Indie grunge with acoustic guitar accompaniment 7.Half-hearted (5:25) Starts subtle but grows into an immense soundscape for the chorus. 8.Split (3:53) Mid tempo with keyboards adding texture to their characteristic fuzzed-out guitars. 9.Drown (4:06) Chiming guitars and splashy percussion. 10.Pissed Pants (4:54) Lovely track ends with screeching feedback that drowns out all unassuming instruments. | ||
