Artist: Noname
Album: Room 25
Room 25 is the debut studio album by American poet and hip-hop recording artist Noname. Recorded in about a month's time, the album chronicles the two years since the release of Noname's debut mixtape “Telefone,” most notably her move from Chicago to Los Angeles and
an intense, short-lived relationship
Related Artists: Chance the Rapper, SZA, Smino, Anderson .Paak, VanJess
*FCC: 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10 (use of n-word, sexually explicit, other generic curse words)
Reviewer Favorites: 1, 4, 8, 11
1. *Self (1:34) - Soft and mellow percussion background, quick spitting rap, soothing sound.
2. *Blaxploitation (2:13) - Staccato beats, clips from the Blaxploitation movie “The Spook Who Sat By the Door,” percussive
3. *Prayer Room [fea. Adam Ness] (4:17) - soft slow beats that are mixed into percussion and sped up prior to the rapping. Explicit and excellent social commentary on American racial politics. Soft fade out
4. *Window [fea. Phoelix] (4:38) - beginning sounds like an old music box which is then accompanied by violins and the piano, somber lyrics reflective of a past relationship, very jazzy hook/chorus, violin outro
5. Don’t Forget About Me (3:39) – 90s hip-hop beat + clapping, breathy lullaby-like rapping, lyrics paint a self-portrait
6. Regal (2:48) – classical intro, instances of fingers snapping and people laughing, soft sound but midtempo beat
7. *Montego Bae [fea. Ravyn Lenae] (2:44) – jazzy sound, midtempo beat driven by a prominent bass instrument, quick rapping
8. *Ace [fea. Smino, Saba] (3:03) – alternative r&b vibe and vocals, quick rapping, light vibe with synths and harmonizing in the bad ground, midtempo
9. *Part of Me [fea. Phoelix, Benjamin Earl Turner] (3:16) – percussive, midtempo, high vocals, another set of lyrics that seem self-reflective, abrupt end
10. *With You (2:29) – staccato drums, mellow sound under the lyrics,
11. no name [fea. Yaw, Adam Ness] (4:06) – Soft but midtempo guitar intro that fades into piano with synths, quick transition into a slow beat that undergirds the rapping + the sounds build up here, male vocal chorus
