Singer songwriter fare with nods to Americana and classic tunesmithing, like Townes Van Zandt, Gram Parsons, Howe Gelb/Giant Sand, but doesn’t shy away from delving into “yacht rock” sentiments with the full on romanticism of classic songwriting. Maryland artist’s silky voice and music is as unpretentious as his online photos. Refreshing. Perfect recording, mixing of pianos, bass, drums, guitars that are twangy in places, rare production level on par with Pete Anderson, the greats. He uses a guitar phase shifter that I swear I remember from my youth in music stores (1976) that is so rich and full, the envy of all (is it the one Siouxsie and the Banshees use too?). But its all about the poetry, the chord progressions, pleasing tones all around. Great stuff, rare gem, for fans of George Harrison, even classic 70’s yacht rock, Starbuck.
1) (4:36) classic song feel, soaring and lovely, some choice guitar 2)* (4:16) super cool hooky distinct guitar embellishments, great melodies, progressions, piano, lovely 3) (2:11) “wall of sound” big toned surfy twang guitar, sheesh this is nice 4) (3:49) lovely song, smacks of G. Harrison 5)* (3:44) an airy floaty feel to this rings of mid 70’s proto-yacht rock (“moonlight, feels bright”), real nice, super cool guitar lead 6)* (3:01) another floaty one, faraway star 7) (3:00) slow swing, a tad darker, great twang guitar 8) (2:47) the phase returns along with that yacht rock feel, but nice 9) (5:03) acoustic guitar and piano, a love ballad, let the cheese flow 10) (4:30) again, the cheesy romantic tones spill over, love music 11) (4:01) another classic toned simple song with a minor inflection, great lyrics
