Made up of members from Shearwater and Cross Record, Loma's eponymous debut is brimming with found sounds and unusual effects making for an enjoyable aural journey for the listener. Their self-titled debut is a moody, sky-scraping album that feels like a good sum of its parts. The vocal melodies often sound like they were taken right from Shearwater’s masterful LP, Jet Plane and Oxbow, and sudden scraps of sound are layered around the percussion parts and act as urgent propulsion for the songs.
Like: Sidney Gish, The Orilles, A. Savage, Shearwater, Cross Record.
FCC Clean.
Play: 1, 3, 5, 10
1.Who Is Speaking? (2:14) - Spacious melodies and reverberating guitars.
2.Dark Oscillations (5:37) - Atmosphere with a seductive vocal melody that seems to sink down into the undergrowth.
3.Joy (3:22) - Dark pop orchestration.
4.I Don't Want Children (5:49) - Haunting vocals against an almost Asian-like piano patterns.
5.Relay Runner (5:00) - Robotic bounce like “wah wah” grumbling underbelly.
6.White Glass (4:12) - Whooshing winds suddenly fades out in a haze of radio static.
7.Sundogs (5:31) - Dogs panting over rippling rich, acoustic tones.
8.Jornada (3:20) - Gritty, futuristic grandeur instrumental.
9.Shadow Relief (4:49) - Brooding intensity that contrasts with vocals, with a slight Celtic feel.
10.Black Willow (5:17) - Four minutes of lush, captivating tones that evoke imagery of fog-draped woods.
