– General Description: I guess you have to be there and see the film because as a stand-alone set of pieces they get very monotonous if you listen to them all in a row (with the exception of “Teeming Life”). Glass is Glass and describes his music for the movie “Jane” as providing “the aural background and the aural context that the film exists in”. These pieces create some mood. Play sparingly.

– Track Reviews:
1. (4:17) In the Shadow of Man: sounds like piano practice music for independence of the fingers; sums up all the rest
2. (4:50) Time of Discovery: one and two and then pulsing block chords, lots of swirling
3. (4:06) Mother: more piano practice, plus a quiet dance with the strings
4. (4:32) The Proposal: 1-2-3 with block chords riding below
5. (4:05) Serengeti: passing the motive baton around the orchestra
6. (2:46) The Aggression: running feeling and circus-y, then plodding
7. (5:34) Hugo Arrives: sad slow piano with wandering bass line
8. (3:33) Teeming Life: very similar to Elliot Goldenthal’s “Titus’ Vow” from the movie “Titus”
9. (3:48) Grub is Born: swing-set-like or teeter-totter
10. (4:12) A New Generation: similar to opening, blocky
11. (3:17) Parent and Child: Spanish Western sound
12. (3:12) Flint Dies: again with the Spanish Western sound, noble cowboy dies
13. (4:36) Time in Gombe: more open plains cowboy action
14. (1:29) Community Divides: glockenspiel and heavy bowed bass
15. (3.44) Perfect Life: the cowboys saved the town with spaceships
