INDIE ROCK Here’s a baker’s dozen of short, peppy, fun songs from a group of friends up in Sacramento. They use a classic formula: catchy tunes; fun lyrics; a two guitar, bass, and drums lineup; and good harmony singing. Influences are from the ‘60s through the ‘90s… all brought up to date. There are some subtle political, social justice, & anti-war allusions. No FCC issues. 1 ** Mid-fast. Bouncy song about a girl at another school. Good singing. (3:29) 2 Mid-fast. Sounds like REM. A little bit sad: waiting for a girl to come back. (2:44) 3 * Mid-fast. Sounds of the ‘60s British Invasion. Layered guitars & voices. (2:56) 4 Mid-tempo. The 60s again; almost the Monkees. Fun, but not among the best. (2:43) 5 * Mid-fast. Bouncy tune, but some sadness in the lyric. The title may refer to 9/11. (2:48) 6 Mid-fast. Seagull sounds, guitars. Lyrics w references to ocean are hard to hear. (2:35) 7 ** Mid-tempo. Love song (or political statement) with clever lyrics. Title is the date of Eisenhower’s “military Industrial complex” speech. (2:10) 8 Mid-tempo. Bouncy & happy. Cute lyrics about a rabbit in the back yard. (2:49) 9 * Fast, loud, angry. Somewhat “punk”. Hard power chords, furious drumming. (3:03) 10 Mid-tempo. A silly song. It seems they were fooling around with this one. (2:20) 11 Mid-tempo. Sad realizations. Did he lose a lover or come back from the war? (2:46) 12 * Mid-tempo. Bright, upbeat sound with angry post-breakup lyrics. (3:07) 13 Fast. Good guitar & drums. The singing’s not as good as on others. (2:46) |
