Though Toronto's METZ are still generating caterwauling hurricanes of sound, these days, primary lyricist/guitarist/young dad Alex Edkins is fixated on the tension that lies within the eye of the storm. Strange Peace starts exploding the moment the opening cut kicks in, and for the next 37 minutes the band lays out a nonstop barrage of razor-sharp guitars, rumbling bass, and drums that go off like cannon fire. Like: The Men, Pissed Jeans, Big Ups, Mclusky FCC Clean Play:1, 2, 3, 5 1.Mess of Wires (3:29) - A tangle of mechanical riffs bursting through the fuzz. 2.Drained Lake (3:04) - Driving drumbeats and screeching guitar riffs. 3.Cellophane (4:12) - Catchy chorus chants hammering guitars. 4.Caterpillar (3:14) - Aggressive in dashes of pop subtle melody. 5.Lost in the Blank City (4:27) A convergence of tension and agony. The sense something might implode. 6.Mr. Plague (2:39) The thrashing chaos trademark from METZ. 7.Sink (3:50) - Hypnotic, post-punk drawl 8.Common Trash (3:14) - Chugging feedback-soaked guitars facing smashing rhythms. 9.Escalator Teeth (0:47) lasts for just 45 seconds, abruptly stopping. 10.Dig a Hole (1:15) - Quick and messy, guitar hooks that screams like angry elephants. 11.Raw Materials (5:56) Slams and churns until collapsing into a ringing, breathless bridge reminiscent of Sonic Youth. | ||
