Telepathic Juan Reviewed 2017-06-28 | ||
Supermercado is the sophomore recording by Montreal, Canada quartet, Corridor. Inspired jangle pop with touches of psych Americana (think Ultimate Painting) and post-punk a la Preoccupations. Great guitars from start to finish. In French. RIYL: Ultimate Painting, Preoccupations, Wire Train, Beachwood Sparks and early The Shins. FCC CLEAN! Recommended Tracks: 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10, 11 1. (1:33) Ce n'est rien – Guitar riff and vocals then a beat. Short. Like the intro of a Beachwood Sparks LP. 2. (2:09) **Coup d'epee – Brief and enjoyable medium-up tempo guitar- driven track. Think Ultimate Painting meets The Shins. 3. (4:03) ***Le grand ecart – Exquisite upbeat piece of 21st century dream pop. Sounds like early Wire Train with hints of C86. By minute 2:33 song slows down and quietly lingers with some gentle guitar activity. One of my favorite tracks from the album. 4. (1:58) *Mal aux mains – Dark slow/fast tempo recording that reminds me Preoccupations. 5. (3:29) **Du Moyen Age a l'age moyen – In the same spirit as the previous song. More melodic. Medium-up tempo. For fans of Women/Viet Cong/Preoccupations. 6. (2:49) L'espoir sans fin – Medium-up tempo guitar-driven piece. Early The Shins comes to mind. 7. (3:39) *Data fontaine – Dream pop guitar exercise a la Ultimate Painting. Medium-up tempo. Coastal sunny days. 8. (5:37) **Un long canal – Recording constructed around a rhythmic guitar section and dubbed vocals. Medium-up tempo. The build-up is very effective. Beachwood Sparks comes to mind. 9. (0:49) Supermercado – Brief instrumental piece. Ambient folk-pop. 10. (5:02) ***Demain deja – Ferocious guitar-driven upbeat recording of stunning quality. My second favorite song on the album. 11. (2:41) **L'histoire populaire de Jonathan Cadeau – Corridor’s own version of Americana music. Part Ultimate Painting, part Beachwood Sparks. |
