Reviewed by: Kim Walter Oct 2016 Label: Hog Mob Muzik Smooth, professional country album from one of country’s all-stars with highlights of bluegrass individuality. This album stands out from his classic sound, both in the heavy feeling of bluegrass and in the great variation in the way his voice is used, Not your typical Dwight Yoakam. Best songs are #6, #10 and (by far my favorite) #12. Dwight Yoakam – “Swimming Pools, Movie Stars” 1. “What I Don’t Know”2:52 -Entertaining lyrics 2. “Free To Go”3:50-nice banjo 3. “Sad, Sad Music”3:17-smooth, professional country 4. “These Arms”3:58-formulaic sounding, but upbeat and happy 5. “I wouldn’t Put It Past Me”3:39-Classic Dwight Yoakam vocals dominate- nice harmonies 6. “Listen” 4:26 -nice instrument emphasis with varying tempos/beats 7. “Two Doors Down”4:18 -honky tonk style 8. “Guitars, Cadillacs” 3:21-Classic Dwight sound 9. “Home for sale” 3:07- pertinent theme in this day and age 10. “Please, Please Baby”2:44-nice banjo/other instruments 11. “Gone (That’ll Be Me)” 3:28-Big bluegrass feel in an upbeat tempo 12. “Purple Rain”4:43 – Down home Purple Prince! Best song on CD. Homage done on day Prince died. |
