CHAMBER JAZZ The soundtrack (by bassist Bill Noertker) for a documentary film about the art of kinetic artist David Beck is mostly pleasant and very listenable. Most tracks are composed by Noertker and performed by his Noertker’s Moxie ensemble. The exceptions (2, 8, &11) are co-written by Beck and performed as duets on baritone sax and bass. No FCC issues. 1 * Mid-tempo. Lighthearted melody on flute. Fun accompaniment. (2:43) 2 Slow. Bluesy crawl on baritone sax. Walking bass line. Not much to it. (3:09) 3 Mid-tempo. Close counterpoint by several reads. Syncopated drumming. (1:17) 4 * Mid-tempo. Butterfly flute, hippo bari sax. Cute, clever tune. (3:50) 5 Mid-tempo. Pretty music box tune for flute, oboe, bass. (0:51) 6 ** Mid-slow. Bass & piano trade off a little circular melody. Grows & develops. (3:59) 7 ** Mid-fast. Happy, swingin’ tune by a chorus of reeds. (4:00) 8 ** Very slow. Sneaky blues crawl on baritone sax, with just minimal comp on bass. (5:31) 9 * Mid-slow. Bass & drums set up a beat. Multiple reeds play slow, slinky melody. (3:19) 10 Mid-slow. Simple modal tune on piano, flute, oboe. Full ensemble toward the end. (6:56) 11 ** Slow. Best of the baritone sax / bass duets. The most melodic. Real good bass. (4:20) 12 Mid-fast.
