Ambient compositions from Sandro Perri, a mainstay on Constellation known for his longform instrumental work and forays into tropicalia/jazz/prog. He combines a variety of vintage synthesizers with harpsichord, guitar, strings, and piano. This reminds me a bit of that recent Mark Pritchard album although there’s no vocals. At times soothing and subdued, yearning and exploratory, these are richly subtle compositions that unfurl in some atemporal plane and leave you all the more rewarded. No FCCs.
1. (6:26) ** Primitive Streak—Spooky ambient drifts, wandering harmonica
2. (3:50) ** Old Brain—Arpeggiated zither-like synths, pebbled aquatic samples
3. (1:20) No Host—Vocoder, lots of synths, apparently one of the synthesizers is called “Syntorchestra” isn’t that cool [I also just found out that synthmania.com is a thing and holy god have I been missing out on something]
4. (6:04) * Extraction—Gloomy ambient sounds, jittery drum machine, depressive strings, subtly frantic. Near silent in last 30 seconds
5. (6:48) ** Choral Hatch—Really eerie and spacious. Echoey strings, synths, and a warped banjo cameo. Like seven different synthesizers were used in the making of this
6. (5:20) *** New Brain—Hazy, yearning Feel Good Lost atmospherics, sounds Eastern
7. (5:24) *** Wonder Farm—Plodding, odyssean journey through a southeast Asia rainforest. Guitar, harpsichord, drum machine, and the slightest piano
