Sam Bush, one of the progenitors of Newgrass, now features drums in his ensemble.
This, his 7th Sugar Hill release, showcases his excellent songwriting and lead vocals, and
terrific mandolin and fiddle playing.
1 – (3:31) Play By Your Own Rules* Excellent mid-up-tempo opener.
2 – (4:01) Everything Is Possible* Title says it all, reggae-style beat, mid-tempo.
3 – (3:53) Transcendental Meditation Blues Decent song of separation, longing.
4 – (4:48) Greenbrier* Fine mid-up-tempo instrumental, excellent improvisation.
5 – (3:57) Lefty’s Song* Mid-tempo tune about love reunited, nice.
6 – (3:56) Carcinoma Blues* Mid Jimmy Rodgers-style tune co-written by Bush & Guy Clark.
7 – (3:32) Bowling Green* Fine nostalgic tribute to Bush’s family & Kentucky hometown.
8 – (3:43) Handmics Killed Country Music* Mid-up shuffle co-written and sung by Bush &
Emmylou Harris. Album’s best track.
9 – (5:54) Where’s My Love* Dark & bluesy, punchy mid-tempo rhythm, nicely done.
10 – (3:54) It’s Not What You Think* Fine mid-up instrumental, excellent playing.
11 – (5:35) I Just Wanna Feel Something Funky jam, just so-so.
