The Souljazz Orchestra’s seventh long play Resistance explores the Ottawa group’s ongoing interest in mixing French Caribbean and West African musical influences, elements of coupé-décalé, zouk rhythms, and socially conscious messages. Vocal duties are shared by several members of the band, which give the album a lot of diverse singing and melodic styles. World Beat 101.

RIYL: Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, Antibalas, Kokolo Afrobeat Orchestra, The Budos Band, and Jungle Fire.

Recommended Tracks: 2, 3, 5, 6, and 9

1. (4:50) Greet The Dawn – Decent opener. Sets the general feeling of the whole album.
2. (3:18) *Shock And Awe – Upbeat and groovy. Tremendous vocals.
3. (4:05) *Courage – Another pleasant upbeat tune. Kinda of a Bossa Nova melody.
4. (4:13) As The World Turns – Commercial radio hit here.
5. (4:09) **Life Is What You Make It – Totally retro a la Fela Kuti. Great rhythm.
6. (4:55) **Bull's Eye – Awesome organ-driven, upbeat tune with Rasta vocals.
7. (3:46) Soleil Couchant – Happy upbeat tune with French language vocals.
8. (3:56) Ware Wa – Playful and with interesting rhythmic changes. Los Fabulosos Cadillacs would be proud.
9. (4:08) **Kossa Kossa – Another 1970’s African funk-inspired track. Tremendous!
10. (5:07) It's Gonna Rain – Pleasant ending. Kind of 1970’s New York Latin Jazz influenced.
