Beautiful, noisy, fuzzy, weird rock from Victoria, Canada. Think Pavement/The Fall, plus modern garage faves (The Intelligence, Oh Sees, mmany more). And free jazz (there's sax, natch). And grunge. You can see some of the ragged weirdness of The Prefab Messiahs here... overall, it's just great. No FCCs detected.
1. (3:15) ***** Bleep, then fuzzy garage, scruffy neck-veined vox-- crazy hooks, crazy drive. YES.
2. (2:19) **** Cool krauty groove, then super-cool-in-the-saddle vocals, weird political talk-rambling about the NSA and what else.
3. (4:28) ****** 'HE'S A HIPPIE IN THE CITY'. Like a meandering demented version of Gimme Shelter. A couple shambling drum beats for 20 seconds, then it kicks in-- female bg singer. just give it a shot, funny and beautiful and weird.
4. (4:11) **** FREE JAZZish -- unstructured instrumental, noisy and rocking, but it's free.
5. (2:08) **** "Candy Baby"-- kinda doorsish. Noisy and muddy mix, growling low vox.
6. (1:51) ****** Eyes-bulging+sandpaper-down-throat vocals, plus major key guitar thrashing-- a really sweet and noisy and bizarre and beautiful track.
7. (2:43) **** Fem vocals, hazy and half-trying. Noisy warpo guitars waft around. Wonderful.
8. (3:37) **** loud, breaking glasses, cries and screams. a bar band in hell.
9. (2:55) ****** Starts with a radio playing "fly like an eagle", then it breaks, and it's ... meowing? Weird mewling goes on forever, as the radio fully dies. Great avant track.
10. (5:40) **** Another FREE JAZZish instrumental, this one longer and also rocking.
11. (2:50) **** Byrdsish, to an extent. Shaggy folky rocky
