Guantanamo Baywatch are way-cool surf-rock retro dudes fro Portland who are putting out their first album in three years. It's a mixture of straight-ahead surf instrumentals, and some blue-eyed, frat-rock, novelty, and other '60s vocal stylings. It's great, surfy stuff. You know you want it-- FCC clean.
1. (3:19) *** NON-INSTRUMENTAL -- swingin', loungey, '50s jungle-pop, with some minor fuzz. Plenty of monkeys chattering and birds chirping, alongside goofy and fun vox.
2. (2:27) ** INSTRO. Circular, high-stepping surf with clean sound. Goofy and sprightly.
3. (3:20) *** NON-INSTRO. Snarly '50s vox (Shannon-Clamsy) and ridiculous falsetto bg singers. Heavy "sea of love" bongos, and good atmosphere.
4. (3:06) *** INSTRO. Heavy fuzz Ventures-style; with exotic "ooh"ing, and super-warpo git.
5. (3:55) ***** NON-INSTRO. Surf-soul. "Darling, it's too late" !!! With soulful backing vox. Cool funny draggy spoken-word section that overlaps-- WAY COOL
6. (2:33) **** INSTRO. Bleepy bloopy galloping Tornados-style surfer, with some atmospheric "oohing", too. WAY WAY COOL Super super fast.
7. (2:35) *** NON-INSTRO. Soul stomper. Heavy medium beat, and deep bassy r&b beats.
8. (3:29) *** INSTRO. Crazy whistle starts it off-- fairly straightforward surfer with good, energetic drumming.
9. (2:32) **** NON-INSTRO. Cool, cool warpy hypno intro, "woo-hoo" chanting, then cool fuzz-edged snarly '50s vox.
10. (3:53) ***** Garagey, now with hard-beat drums. But still '60s frat-rock style.
