“Praise Elephants” The Persian Leaps
The Persian Leaps is a three-man rock group from St. Paul, Minnesota that plays big guitar-driven, power-pop anthems. Singer/guitarist Drew Forsberg came up with the band’s name in a doodle he drew in a college Greek archaeology class. Other band members include: Brad Hendrickson, bass, guitars and vocals; and Mike McCloskey, drums and vocals. The band claims influences from My Bloody Valentine, Big Star and Guided by Voices — and at times sounds somewhat reminiscent of even 1970s classic rockers such as Boston. “Praise Elephants” is the band’s debut release.

1. (3:00) Hard Feelings – Roaring, noisy guitars. Driving beat. Perhaps a bit of the Smiths.
2. (3:04) Not That Brave – Guitar rock anthem. Rich harmonies. A little Boston-esque. ***
3. (2:34) Silent Treatment – Indie rock that at times sounds like the 1960s, and at other times has a punky, 1980s edge. Lots of distorted guitars and fuzzy riffs. Nice gang vocals on the verses, rather than the choruses. **
4. (2:39) Exponentially Devoted – Guitar rock with no real hooks in it.
5. (3:40) Sleepless – Big ringing guitars and soaring vocals.
